vampire weekend

so, somehow in the last two weeks or so i've gotten into this crazy habit of only sleeping every 2-3 nights. now, i know i have a pretty weird sleep schedule as it is and generally reference "not sleeping last night" fairly often. however, what i usually really mean is "only slept 2-3 hours last night". but lately, if i sleep more than an hour or two one night, then i can't sleep the next night. i'm not really sure why. it might have something to do with the fact that lately i've become a complete fucking nutbag.

on the upside, i played through most of the original max payne tonight. that's one of the many media-related things i try to do at least once a year because it's so damn good (most of my once-a-year things are centered around reading certain books or book series, but there are a few games i try to play at least once a year: half-life, max payne 1 and 2, final fantasy 2 and 3, chrono trigger, etc.) today finds me trying to put a dent in my 65 remaining 8-page papers. i went into work yesterday (friday, i guess) at 630am thinking i could easily knock out at least 20 of those papers in the long day ahead of me. however, i stayed at work until 7pm and didn't get through a single one. it was procrastination and pretty much just sucking on an epic scale. even for me. i'm finishing watching "the brave one" at the moment, keeping with my apparent new tradition of watching a depressing-as-shit movie from 5-7am everyday (yesterday i watched "seven", and three days ago i watched "the fountain").

i don't know why i felt the urge to explain step-by-step what i'm doing. like anyone cares. but sometimes it's nice to pretend someone does.

  1. I appreciate your posts. It's nice to be reminded that they are other vampires out there. Sleep, or lack thereof, does funny things to you. I understand. I've been awake for only an hour and a half and I'm going back to sleep. Sure it's the afternoon, but who cares? Sleep when you can...

Oh, and I like to watch overly predictable movies, a nice break from your depressing ones perhaps. (The problem with this type of movie is that if often doesn't keep my attention, so the reward of being distracted by a film just isn't there...)

  2. "sleep when you can" is going to be my new motto. right up there with "coffee: 'cause you can sleep all you want when you're dead".

i actually generally really like predictable movies. especially romantic comedies. it's like i enjoy seeing the parts of my life i find the most complicated reduced to the silliest, simplest things on-screen.

  3. Hey, Ben, I care about what you're doing not only every hour, but every minute as well. That's why you shouldn't look in that hole by the lamp, because you wouldn't want to see my webcam spying on you, would you??

jk... the really important thing is when are you going to write a blog on the merits of J. Tillman? If you sleep so little, you ought to be doing *something* constructive with your time, geez.

    I jayou, you jayou.
