roundin' the bend

i've had so much caffeine this evening, i feel like there are robot spiders crawling on little skeletal metal legs around in my brain, spinning webs made of smaller, almost microscopic neon green spiders with black hourglass shapes on their backs.

it's that bad.

if i start seeing a baby with a rotating head crawling across the ceiling, i'm offing myself.

i went to moscow today to donate half my wardrobe to goodwill. it's awesome having less stuff. unfortunately, most of the reason i went was to have lunch at mikey's, but mikey's was the opposite of open (aka "closed").

i've started listening to phish obsessively again. it must be spring fo' reals. i might do a review on this 96 vegas album tomorrow if i need a break in grading. because of the moscow thing i didn't get here until 6pm today, which is why i'm still here at almost 1am again. the good news is i only have to grade 22 papers tomorrow and then i'm done grading (and mostly working entirely, except for the usual paperwork stuff) until portfolios are due in a few weeks. after that my life becomes terrifyingly vague and terrifying; so terrifying in fact i will go home tonight and watch movies all night instead of sleeping because when it's quiet and dark i can't help but think about it.

puppies!

i downloaded what white stripes shows i could find on bt.etree.org yesterday. four of them. i'm listening to one from '02 currently on my home PC. it's really good, really raw. the version of "ball and a biscuit" from that show is pretty much my ideal live track in the sense that if i could literally play any type of music in a band for an audience right this second, that song, or something very like it, would be the type of music i would write and play. so you should download it. it's not the absolute best thing in the world in terms of raw quality, but it's definitely the sound my imaginary band would have. and all this time, you thought i was a sensitive singer-songwriter. yeah, well fuck you.

i'm kicking ass in scrabble lately. this isn't important in the sense that i feel the need to brag about it, or that it really matters in a cosmic sense. it IS important in the sense that a few years ago when i started playing i loved the game but was absolutely convinced there was no way i'd ever get good at it. and now i'm improving. so that's cool. games are finally a little about competition and not entirely about how well i can acquit myself while getting destroyed by whoever i'm playing against. in related news, if anybody wants to get their scrabble on against moi and has a facebook account, add scrabulous and hit me up. if you want to play in real life, i suppose i can do that too. but you'll have to find me. and i'll have to turn off my personal cloaking device. and then i'll have to be all like "aww, dude, i totally just had to turn off my fucking cloaking device just for a game of scrabble with you. and you know these things wear out a lot faster when you turn them on and off a lot as opposed to just letting them run, like hard drives in the mid-90s". and that won't be good for anybody.

i watched some more movies lately. eventually i'll get around to reviewing them.

also, i was wondering earlier, after watching half of "the mexican" and then falling asleep on the floor: is it excusable for me to watch "the notebook" if my only reason is because i want to see rachel mcadams act cute in period clothing for two hours? or is it still wrong of me? i need to know. help.

it's finally a little warm here. it's apparently supposed to go back down to 40 tomorrow, but apparently the presence of elton john in our provincial little town the last two days automatically skyrocketed the temperature. my favorite thing about spring (and the only thing i like about summer) is that nights are balmy in pullman, instead of freezy like they are the rest of the year, or fucking oppressive as the ottoman empire as the spring/summer nights are in ohio. i love that at any time pretty much between april and october in pullman, you can be completely comfortable in a sweater and jeans for the entire night. this is nice, because when i'm awake all night, wandering around outside and daydreaming (nightdreaming) about what everyone else is dreaming about in their sleep-ness, i can be at least not freezing or sweating my ass off. and ass-care is important, because without it, you couldn't sit.

the last two nights have been especially nice, though; around 50 degrees and with only that little kissing pullman wind that is as close as it ever gets to being windless here. it's been really clear both nights, which is also great (often clear night skies are depressing, for reasons too cheesy to disclose; however, lately they haven't been).

it makes me think of ewoks, mostly. yeah, ewoks. on endor. when i was a kid, my family used to go to florida every summer for a vacation, and stay in our RV in the woods (sort-of-woods). well, my grandparents had an RV also, and i loved my grandparents to death, so i would always go over to their RV and hang out all night. now, i'd imagine that having already raised kids once that this wasn't the most fun thing for them to put up with, so they managed to distract me by continuously playing "return of the jedi" on their TV. at the time, this was the only star wars i had ever seen; i didn't even know what "star wars" was. this would be the case for a long time. imagine my surprise when i finally learned there were two more movies, and i'd watched the third one first...

anyway, we used to always go out walking in the woods/beach area later in the evening, when the air and the weather was a lot like it is here now (only a bit more humid), and so i think i always started associating that type of weather with the trees, and through a stretch of my young mind, the ewok villages on endor. endor always seemed like a pretty cool place. i can't say i'd be too heartbroken to live there, if the ewoks would have me.

my body's doing that thing where it's all like "ohhh fuuuuuuck".

i finished the first max payne last night, meaning i plowed through the whole game in 2 nights. a pretty impressive feat, even for someone with too much time on their hands. i'm going to start part 2 tonight, and perhaps even finish it. if you know what you're doing, it's about 4 hours long. but it's SO DAMN GOOD for those four hours that i'm willing to overlook the shortness.

can you make a "that's what she said" joke on your own blog, to yourself? no. i don't think you can.

i'm pretty sure my entire vascular system is about to shake itself apart like a spaceship breaking atmosphere at an oblique angle. it's time to put down the diet crack and go home while i still can. dfskffffffffffffffffffffffffff.

  1. i think there's some sort of mathematical equation that would express the negative correlation of my respect for you and the amount of time you spend engaging with anything created by nicholas sparks.

  2. had you had college-level math experience, you would realize the equation runs something like this:
(R - 100n), where R is the percent out of 100 of respect you have for me and n is the number of times i engage with something created by nicholas sparks.

also, i feel compelled to point out that rachel mcadams was not created by nicholas sparks.

  3. but ben, r and n are letters, not numbers. maybe you need to review math.

your second point would have more merit if rachel mcadams wasn't in an array of other, non-nicholas sparks things.

nicholas sparks is unforgiveably terrible. that is all.

  5. So many things to comment on:

Spiders in your head? No good.

    Mostly being done grading? Good.

Turning off your cloaking device? Also, good.

Understanding that turning off your cloaking device is more damaging than leaving it on? Awesome.

Rachel McAdams? Adorable. She even made Wedding Crashers worth watching.

Saying "that's what she said" in your own blog? Completely appropriate.

"Just Saying No" to diet crack? Probably a good idea, but unhealthy to quit it all together. Your body would probably revolt against you...or maybe it already has...spiders in the head and all...

  6. In basic mathematical notation, L=n where L is my love for Rachel McAdams and n is the number of times I see that picture.
