even after all of the metal i've listened to in the last two months, metallica's "...and justice for all" is absolutely, beyond a doubt, the best metal album that exists (at least that i've heard). it has some of the best (angry) political lyrics outside of the newport folk festival in the 60s, some of the best just fucking brutal guitar tones, lars ulrich is just destroying the drums (and the drums, i have to say, are mixed just absolutely perfectly with the bass), and of course pretty much all the solos are just fucking ridiculous (like the very first one towards the end of "blackened" that segues back into the opening riff). if this record doesn't make you want to fucking smash shit and kill people for the sake of humanity and justice then, well, you're probably just a normal, mentally healthy person.
but seriously. "...and justice for all" is like jay-z. even if you don't listen to rap, you owe it to yourself to listen to some jay-z so you know what some of the good stuff sounds like. even if you don't like metal all that much, you need to listen to this album at least once in your life. if you absolutely hate metal, then WHY THE HELL ARE WE FRIENDS?!
