first song i heard during that crazy weekend at the end of january, up and down the west coast in a fucking neon blue focus that wasn't mine:
cold roses
The mirrors in the room go black and blue
On a Sunday morning in her Saturday shoes
We don't choose who we love
We don't choose
The lights over the Midway melt on the street
In a Sunday shoes, with her Saturday feet
She don't love who he choose
She don't need what she use
Daylight comes and exposes
Saturday's bruises and cold roses
Cold roses
Nothing but the sunlight will help you grow
From underneath your bed you can't see the window
We don't choose what we see
We don't choose
Fortunate and angry just like a child
All that money buys you medicine but can't buy you time
We don't choose what we love
And she don't need what she got
Daylight comes and exposes
Saturday's bruises and cold roses
fucking great song...probably some of my favorite cardinals lyrics. anyway, i'm still pretty smashed, so i guess i'll save the pontificating and let the lyrics speak for themselves. and go play starcraft.
here's the soundboard from the archive.
Ryan Adams right? He definitely has a way with words. I usually felt the slightest bit of wanting to commit suicide after I listen to his music. In a good way. If that makes any sense at all.
ReplyDeletethat sort of makes sense, strangely enough.
ReplyDeletehis music used to depress the shit out of me, but now that he's sober it seems like he's more about acknowledging the badness of the world while hoping you can do something about it, or at least learn from it. i dunno if that makes sense. that's sort of how i feel about life, too, though. so i guess maybe that's why i like his music so much.
