that portmanteau didn't work as well as i thought it would. my bad.
so instead of going to sleep in order to stave off another potential attack of insanity, i've been watching ryan adams videos on youtube.
after the madness that was the 2-night, 2-show end of january, i was so incredibly blown away by the cardinals that i, strangely enough, stopped listening to them. sort of like if you have the best date in the world one night and then suddenly the idea of helping your girlfriend weed the garden the next morning just seems like a chore. like you've reached the top and there's nowhere to go but disappointment. this cardinals-exile was good, because it allowed me to finally stop listening to the 30-some shows i had on my hard drive and actually burn them, plus it allowed me to spend a month finding new bands that i like (lots of them) and to get into some good live shows from bands that i had, until then, somewhat failed to appreciate (radiohead, wilco). i'm almost glad trey's been on vacation for a year, because otherwise i'd be up to my armpits in cd-rs and listening to the same three bands i've listened to for three years.
anyway, i think the cardinals drought has passed. i'm ready to weed the garden (that just sounds dirty, i don't know why...oh yeah, because i'm a deviant).

i was going to watch "over the top" tonight. it's so bad, it's good, and then bad again, and then wraps right the fuck back around to good. no, no, it's just really bad.

trying to stave off insanity by listening to ryan? maybe a poor choice. some songs are near suicide-inducing...in a good way.
ReplyDeletei am madly in love with regina spektor and nina simone. so much so that I only allow myself to listen to one or two new songs every few months or so. i never want to stop appreciating hearing their music. sometimes you need to take time to fully absorb the really good things...
yeah, there's something about his particular brand of madness that i can associate with :)

i do the same thing with mason jennings' new album. i always have it laying out somewhere but i never listen to it more than once every few months because i don't want the songs to become too commonplace.
Oh my gosh, she's completely amazing!! Most people start out with Fidelity, but all of her songs are so amazing it doesn't really matter where you start. I'm going through an On the Radio and Samson phase right now. You should check them out! I think most of her videos are on youtube. It's a good time :)
