cardinal beat-down

some might say that after going 1-3 in the preseason, winning two of their first three games in barn-burner overtimes against mediocre teams, and then losing to a decent-at-best panther team, the niners could be 1-4 just as easily as they could be 4-1. one might say that. if we were talking about real football, and not madden football.

but we're talking about madden football.

and i destroyed the cardinals last night.

despite a shopping-cart-ful of dropped passes, bowes gained 150 on the ground and the cardinals were unable to get much of any offense going (their 15 points were three looooong field goals and one touchdown that game right at the end of the game on a hail mary pass). at the end of the first quarter, we had two 7-minute drives and two touchdowns and they had run 6 plays and gained -3 yards. ray scholl had two touchdowns in the game, and his first one was a brilliant catch right in the corner of the end zone.

things evened out a bit after that, and it was 14-6 going into the half, 17-6 immediately after. it was 30-9 in the fourth quarter when the cards scored their first touchdown and looked to be attempting a comeback, now down 30-15, but on the second play from scrimmage on the next drive the niners used the bunting-to-bunting connection on a 50-yards-in-the-air pass for a touchdown to put the game out of reach for good.

next up are the rams, perennial rival for the NFC West's affections. but interestingly enough, they're currently 1-3 and rate lower than the niners for the first time in seven seasons. it would feel nice to completely annhilate them.
