MADDEN - 2/7

two more close victories and the niners tie up home field advantage for the playoffs. there's still one game left, against the 2-13 cardinals, but the niners managed to beat both their arch-nemesis rams and the seahawks in outrageous fashion to advance to 14-1.

the rams pretty much owned everything for the first half, holding the niners to under 50 yards. thanks to a few ram turnovers:




it was "only" 24-14 at halftime. the niners managed to (in really ugly fashion) tack on 10 more points while holding the rams to a field goal, and then holding them again to get the ball back with 2 minutes left. they drove down into field goal range easily, but decided to chance a touchdown (mostly because i'm an idiot) on third down with nine seconds left and no timeouts, trailing 27-24 instead of tying it with a field goal (which i was planning to do on the next down). however, the rams blitzed, the QB got the pass off just as he was hit, and somehow ernie game up with this catch in the end zone to win the game:


The Seattle game was a little more underwhelming. the niners scored on their first four drives and were unstoppable in the first half, leading 21-6 at halftime after this ridiculous shovel pass (ernie's developed quite the set of hands in the last few games):


it was 24-9 late, but the seahawks mounted a comeback that ended up tying it 24-24 with 7 minutes left. then came possibly the best moment of the season where the niners drove down the field, precisely milking the clock and running bowes for over 40 yards, eviscerating the seattle defense and kicking a field goal with 2 seconds left to win. good times.

now off to destroy the cardinals and return peace to the GALAXY.
