MADDEN - 2/11

the dolphins finally took a step towards evening the score, as they upset the niners in the super bowl on a last-second field goal, 27-24.

there are no screenshots, as i was busy trying to win the entire game.

the niners played pretty much like garbage for the entire first half, missing a field goal, racking up 60 penalty yards, and failing to convert on almost all first downs. bowes continued to be largely ineffective, forcing the QB to throw while under pressure, which resulted in a lot of incomplete passes. thanks to great play by the defense, though, and a sudden scoring drive late in the half, it was 10-10 at halftime.

the dolphins scored twice in quick succession late in the third quarter after the teams punted back and forth a few times, and then the niners scored once at the opening of the fourth quarter to make it 24-17. the niners would score again with about six minutes left on the clock to tie things up, and then the two teams battled back and forth at midfield until about the :30 mark, when the niners got down to the dolphin 35. needing just a few yards to set up the game-winning field goal, the QB threw a screen pass for bowes, but it was picked off and run back into field goal range for the dolphins, setting up the game-winning field goal in a stunning display of idiocy and incompetence.

anyway, a disappointing end for sure, but a great season considering the new difficulty level this year. i sorted out the draft/resigning/trades/etc. for next season, cranked up the difficulty the rest of the way (making the AI basically unstoppable), and then put the game CD back in its box until next september or so. sadly, the last image we'll all have of the niners until then is bunting laying on his back on the field after throwing away a game that looked to be literally five yards away from won. but that's fake sports for you, folks.

now back to real life. and things like music. and...witches. i can finally get back to important things on my "to-do" list like "finish starcraft expansion pack". seriously. i started playing starcraft in 1999, and have logged an absurd number of hours on it since then. now, 9 years later, i've finally gotten good enough to get within 3 levels of finishing all 60-some levels. so it's time for the big push. it's on like my coat is on when i go outside and it's cold outside.

this is why i don't have a girlfriend.
