i'm actually quite excited and not at all cynical about things like the library of congress opening its own youtube channel. sure, having government-"sponsored" material on youtube and flickr and whatnot might represent (and further propagate) one particular take on american history and culture, but i'd like to think it also opens up more avenues for critically exploring and learning about that perspective and why it's as prevalent as it is. besides, the photos on flickr are just badass.
