i was just listening to this song this morning before class, and marvelling at what a great blues tune it is. then when class got snowed to death, i figured i'd come home and learn it. i've been thinking about writing 1-2 straight blues numbers for the next record, maybe one on piano, and so i thought recording this might be good practice. i'm not sure how it sounds, but damn if it wasn't fun to play. anyway, here's a yousendit link. if the link expires, just email me and i'll re-up it. i did pretty much every track in 1 to 3 takes, so don't expect soaring sonic genius. but i think it's good, all things considered. let me know what you think if you want. even if you think it sucks. especially if you think it sucks.

ReplyDeleteNo--it is a haunting song, and I think your 2-part guitar thing sounds awesome. I was listening to the Susan's recording again too and appreciating Mike's (?) embellishments on the electric--it' s a good sound for your songs.
i really, really like the addition of and specifically the style of the playing both on the drums and guitars from that show. i think they make the songs a little less dreary-folky and a little more upbeat while at the same time making them more impactful. if that makes sense. i'd love to have a band that could do a sort of cardinals vs. neil young/crazy horse thing with those songs, and the ones i'm working on now.
ReplyDeleteglad you like the new song. mike pointed out there are some issues with the solo, but i like the rest of it a lot, especially the harmonica at the end.
